Jerry Joseph
everything was beautiful
You can feel the difference. Perhaps due to his dozen-plus years as a serious performer, Jerry Joseph's music carries a vitality not found in most neophyte bar-busters. When seeing his live show, one should be prepared to sit and writhe-this music is definitely good for what ails you. the man is a ferocious animal on stage, and his take on blue-collar rock'n'roll is equally as stormy. - The Rocket Magazine
Everything was Beautiful, Jerry Joseph's latest solo album, was recorded on Vashon Island, Washington at friend and producer Pete Droge's studio, The Tree Farm.
On this record Joseph and Droge relied on their longtime friendship to produce a record that is intimate and captures some of Joseph's finest song writing. He writes passionately and honestly about love, loyalty and his personal history. This collection of 12 songs was written since his recent return to Portland, Oregon and during his numerous trips to Europe.
"I believe that, ultimately, so much of music is forcing people's attention. You know, writing songs that mean something. I want someone out there to listen and just go, "yeah, that is so true."
Everything was Beautiful also showcases the talents of guest musicians Peter Stroud, Dave Hull (Sheryl Crow), Ian Moore, Paul Brainard, and Caleb Klauder.
The idea for the title of his new solo-album "Everything was Beautiful" is taken from the American writer Kurt Vonnegut. "Somewhere in his books he describes a grave, on which is written: "Everything was beautiful, nothing hurt." That was a great image I thought" Jerry says with a little irony.
" A truly great songwriter who can see as well through other peoples' eyes as he can through his own and then deliver his message like he's on a holy mission." - David Lindley
Joseph spent three weeks in 2000 touring as the support act for Vic Chesnutt in Europe. This past year his band, the Jackmormons, has toured in the United States with both Widespread Panic and Gov't Mule, as well as two headlining national tours.
Everything was Beautiful was released in October 31, 2000, on UlfTone Music. With solid support from a progressive label, and his best record to date, Joseph can look forward to his music reaching new audiences and seeing the fruits of his labor.
