PIGS WILL FLY
OST feat. Chris Whitley, Warner Poland & Kai-Uwe Kohlschmidt
PIGS WILL FLY is a dramatic journey on the razors edge, between longing and fear, love and violence that ends in San Francisco...with a steep climb between a fresh start and the past.
The soundtrack/score was created by two renowned German musicians/producers, WARNER POLAND (Nina Hagen etc.) and KAI-UWE KOHLSCHMIDT, alongside famed singer/songwriter CHRIS WHITLEY. The chance encounter of the people who made the music to this film seems almost like a strike of fate.
Whilst shooting in San Francisco the team saw a concert of the introverted, yet genius Whitley, who recently chose to call former-East-German Dresden his current home. They were so excited that director EOIN MOORE approached him directly upon a second meeting in Berlin. By collaboration with Poland and Kohlschmidt they delivered a multi-layered and musically touching soundtrack that often reminisces of Ry Cooders masterpiece Paris, Texas (but with vocals), not only due to Whitleys fantastic Resonator-Guitarplaying.
Even though the soundtrack is somewhat close to the story of the film, Whitley and his fellow musicians have managed to create fragile, yet rich songs that offer more than meets the ear upon first listen in their unobtrusive complexity and, yet again, show Whitley as one of the most unique and innovative artists of todays day and age. Even though this is a soundtrack and only features Chris Whitley many see it as the legit follow-up to the magnificient Perfect Day-album.
