Ulftone FAQ:
This is gonna help everyone navigate in the ulfTone-universe and that´s why I´m writing this in English and German so we all understand.
What´s FAQ?? It means Frequently Asked Questions and this section follows the sole purpose of educating you, our beloved friend and music lover, to find out what you want (or need) and how to get to it and QUICK!!
Let me hit the high points:
1. You are a band/artist/label/manager/lawyer/extraterrestrial and are thinking that those lads at ulfTone might be the right people to work with on your quest to international superstardom.
Generally, that initial spark of an idea is a good start. We like music and the people that make it and keep on being flattered that people consider us to be qualified to be their label. In fact, most of our deals came together be recommendation.
Here´s a few quirks that are involved, though:
a) We listen to every demo/CD/album/8-track we receive with great enthusiasm, however, we are not staffed well enough to send you a "sorry, it´s great, but you´ll be better off at DeathRow Records with this music"-type letter.
So: if we like what you do, we´ll get a hold of you. We´ll appear in your dreams, we´ll knock on your door, wash your car, feed your pets etc.
If we DON´T like it, we will either send it to a label that we think will like it or will hold on to it but we WILL NOT SEND IT BACK TO YOU unless you include an International Reply Coupon. With about 75 products a week pitched for consideration, we simply can´t afford it! Sorry.
b) We don´t like to be called a million times about a project. It´s not that we don´t like to talk but there´s enough talking going on as it is in the office and we are only three people working here, so if we don't come back to you, the music just wasn't our taste.
c) Your package should be sent to the attention of Henning Bär. His direct email is office@ulftone.com, his phone extension is +49 30 3450 56-0.
2. You are a journalist and feel that you could help our artists by reviewing the album, or getting it played on the radio:
a) You should send an email to office@ulftone.com. This will lead to one of out staffmembers and he is responsible for deciding who´s getting what and when so better be nice to him. He is always nice, too...
b) Once you´ve received something from us, it is imperative that, once something has appeared in print or has been played on the radio, you let us know and send a tearsheet (press clipping) or playlist. As usual, we can´t afford to send records to people that don´t do anything with them and maybe even sell them in used record stores (which is a cardinal sin).
c) You will find out that we maintain a very intense relationship with our media colleagues and that we really care for you as long as we also feel that we´re treated with respect.
3. You are a fan and would like to support us by getting records played and posters hung up, flyers spread and all sorts of things, just because you like out artists and are a loveable individual:
a) OK now. We already love you. Here´s what you do: send an email to Ulf (uzick@ulftone.com), tell him if you´re only interested in a special artist or if your enthusiasm is so great, that you would help us out with mostly anybody we sign and then we´ll hook you up. We´ll discuss how many pieces of what you could use and will send it to you. It´s also 100% clear that you will get to go to gigs for free and that you get to bring a friend as well. If you feel compelled to joining the ulfTone street team, write and you will be rewarded!
4. You are a fan (or a potential fan) and you have trouble finding our records in the stores that you like:
a) Unfortunately, that seems to be a very common problem. Here´s what you do: Tell the buyer (or whoever looks like the guy out of "High Fidelity") what you´re looking for and that you wonder why he hasn´t stocked it. If he tells you "it´s not available", tell him that you would like him to check in his database (for instance, PhonoNet in Germany) and that you really think that the record is a must. If you still have trouble finding the album and he refuses to order, email us with the store address and we´ll take care of it.
b) Please also encourage dealers to get in touch with us directly since we have a lot of programs and dealer support plans that we love to discuss with those fellas (since, guess what, records are being sold in record stores...).
5. You are a promoter/booker and would like to book one of our acts:
a) We don´t book all of our acts ourselves, Some of them have agents, in the UK or in the US and some act as independent agents of their own. To list this, especially with agents often changing, is impossible and never accurate, so just email us at info@ulftone.com and we´ll tell you who you need to talk to and give you the RIGHT name and the RIGHT numbers. That´s service.
6. I´m in Germany/planning to be in Germany and am coming to Berlin. Can I visit you guys, get free coffee and learn the latest about the music business??
a) Yes.
