Jesse Harris & the Ferdinandos
crooked lines
Jesse Harris is unique. Not only uniquely handsome, as everybody agrees, but also very talented. He is one of New York´s New Singer/Songwriters and not only constantly playing with his band The Ferdinandos (featuring members of Bill Frisell, Tom Waits, John Scofield an The Loungelizards) but also writing and producing for a lot of other artists.
A famous example for that is Norah Jones. Jesse wrote a couple of tunes for her top-ten-release Come away with me and performed a big part of the album together with the Ferdinandos as the featured band.
Norah honored that with a number of performances on Jesse´s first solo-album.
Very natural and partly experimental Jesse shows that not every new singer/songwriter automatically has to repeat others. He combines lots of influences, ranging from the Beach Boys´ Pet Sounds to Rollins Band to create his own sound.
A big part of this is carried by guitarist and co-producer Tony Scherr, who also works with those well-known people named above. He does things with his guitar nobody in New York dares to do Jesse says. The album was recorded in Tony´s living room in Brooklyn.
From the relaxed feeling of If he asks you that, through the intimacy of Where are you now to the simple beauty of Do you ever dance when you´re alone one thing becomes obvious:
Jesse Harris has something to say! No doubt.
