Motikat
out of tune
Paul Motikat plays music because hes bored. And because he doesnt have to talk while hes playing. The result is cool as fuck.
Born and raised in the eastern part of Berlin he soon began to tinker around on piano and double bass. Through the years he added more instruments and influences to his music, turning him into the eclectic lo-fi-warrior that he is today: Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, John Lennon, Serge Gainsbourg, Lou Reed, Kurt Cobain, Frank Black and Britney Spears are all part of his vast record collection.
By chance we obtained his demo-recordings which we thought were so amazing and charming that we decided to release them just as they were. Quite daccord to Mr. Motikat who didnt want to go to an expensive studio anyway and rather cuts his tunes at home in his kitchen. So, out of tune is lo-fi in the truest sense of the word. Focussing on great songwriting and the mere fun of playing and not giving a shit about the proper pronouncement of th and stuff...
One can meet Paul Motikat in one of the little clubs in Berlin, playing solo, with his band Los Desperados or with other projects. And sometimes hes just gone and no one knows where he is and what hes doing. Maybe his next CD will be a Hip-Hop-record, maybe hell go to Alaska fishing shrimps.
He sure knows what hes doing.
