shilf
me
SHILF consists of six experienced musicians who create their own version of what is known as americana. me was produced by Chris Eckman (THE WALKABOUTS) in Ljubljana, Slovenia and was first released in Switzerland. Without any exception, the critics were raving. In 2002 SHILF received the best national act award by the biggest national radio station DRS3. The bands show at the legendary Mühle Hunziken has been recorded and broadcasted by DRS3 nationwide.
SHILF used to be known as the slowest band of Switzerland. In 1995 when the band from Basel was consisting of three members, they self-released their first single My Clean Skin on vinyl. In 1997 their first album Star was released on Disctrade. The present line up of SHILF exsists since 1999. Noisy sounds have become rare, the six musicians emphasize on transparency in their music and the songwriting by Lucas Mösch. They are influenced as much by Dylan as by Van Zandt as well as by the protagonists of the alt.country-scene like Lambchop, Wilco and Giant Sand, also by singer/songwriter-pop bands like Belle And Sebastian or Turin Brakes. SHILF are a democratic unity, whether Lucas Mösch nor Nadia Leonti, known as the singer of POPMONSTER, can be singled out as the creative heads of the band. In the spring of 2001 Shilf recorded with Jakob Künzel (POPMONSTER) 13 new songs in Basel. A year later they gave those recordings to Chris Eckman after a show by THE WALKABOUTS. Two days later he called them to tell them that he liked SHILFs songs so much that hed be happy to produce them. In May in 2002 the recordings were eventually mixed by Chris Eckman in Ljubljana where the musician and producer from Seattle, WA lives today. He added some piano and organ parts played by himself.
