Americana…Alternative Country…Roots-Rock. Singer/songwriter DAVID TODORAN has been tagged with all of these labels, and for good reason. For the past several years, this veteran of the Indiana and Midwest music scene has yanked and shoved at the limitations and boundaries of roots and folk based rock music. "You can’t hide behind labels,” Todoran says, "blues, country, Americana…they’re just ways to classify songs, and whatever style, it’s the song that comes first.”

The first song to make a stir for Todoran was 1988’s Haunted By A Dream. That tune carried David and his then band Red Belly Boys to the finals of the SEAGRAM’S NATIONAL TALENT SEARCH. Soon after, his song Walls caught the attention of THE ALBUM NETWORK. Walls was featured on their 1988 Tune Up CD. Both Haunted By A Dream and Walls received considerable college radio airplay. David went on to win three consecutive INDIANA MUSIC AWARDS (sponsored by Indianapolis-based Sunshine Promotions), followed by a string of regional radio successes including 1994’s Guardian Angel and 1996’s Wheels.

Wheels brought David to the attention of Stan Hertzman, president of Cincinnati based Umbrella Artists and manager of Adrien Belew and David Wilcox producer Ric Hordinski. Through Hertzman, David hooked up with another Midwesterner, Ian Spanic. "I had seen Ian and the Spanic Boys on Saturday Night Live, and I remember thinking, ‘there’s something you don’t hear on t.v. everyday.’ The combination of David’s songs and Ian’s production resulted in Solstice, the 1998 album that The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel called "a superb heartland rock album.”

Solstice produced another regional radio success for Todoran. The album’s lead track, This World, takes a hard look at a heartland struggling with the loss of blue collar industry, and the decline of the family farm. "Churning out bluesy folk that spins insightful yarns about everyday life is Todoran’s stock and trade,” wrote Scott Hickey in David’s hometown daily The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel. "Solstice proves why many consider him one of Indiana’s most talented singer-songwriters.” Certainly one of the most prolific. This World became Todoran’s sixth independent single to make it into regular rotation on Ft. Wayne’s WXKE Rock104. Solstice was just released throughout Europe by ulfTone Music (European label of John Prine, Chris Whitley, Steve Forbert, etc.).

David has again teamed up with producer Ian Spanic to turn out a new album. "It’s a look at how lies linger on the tip of your tongue, and how the truth burns in your throat,” Todoran says, "and never knowing you’re always alone, or foolishly believing that alone is the only way to be…” The new record, Under My Skin, digs even deeper into the rich rural soil of the heartland to explore matters of the heart. 'Love, loss, and twang' is how David describes it.

Americana…Alternative Country…Roots-Rock. Singer/songwriter David Todoran seems destined to be tagged with these labels. "I don’t fret over labels applied to my songs, I just write ‘em and sing ‘em.” If his track record is any indication, he’ll be doing just that for some time.
