Demir Demirkan
2004 ISTANBUL

Being one of the most respected writers, producers and artists hailing from his native Turkey, Demirkan started making a name for himself as guitarist for Turkish Heavy-Metal-Heroes “Pentagram”, then went on to study at GIT in Los Angeles and came back to Istanbul laden with energy and skills. Starting out as a producer he reached his peak by writing, producing and arranging the famed “Every way that I can” for Sertab Erener, who went on to winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2003, placing Demir’s name on the map forever. His music is powerful, international and is mixing skilled writing with powerful production and just the right amount of ethnic elements to make this album easily accessible for non-Turkish listeners without alienating the core audience.

The music is heavy without ever losing melody and Demir’s vocal performance has audibly improved from his last records. None of the album’s predecessors made a big impact outside of Turkey, in fact, the showcase on May 22, 2004 in Berlin marked Demir’s debut performance in Germany.

The quality of his live performances in particular has been praised by both the fans and the media as one of the great moments of today’s music – those who were at the Berlin showcase are still talking about it – the energy in the room is impossible to be put on paper, you had to be there to believe it.

With “2004 Istanbul”, Demir Demirkan has created a masterpiece. It is a consistent progression from his last album yet a back-to-basics approach that showcases the immense strength of Demir’s phenomenal band and giving Turkish music an outlook and reach that it had never had before: to finally break out with a Rock Star that can make an impact all over the world.
